Giles' Relationship History

NOTE: This relationship history includes only relationships that occurred since Giles' appearance on the television series, because that is the only information we have. This doesn't mean, however, that Giles had no prior relationships. I'm certain he did.

Giles and Jenny CalendarJenny: Giles' one true love relationship on the show was with Jenny Calendar, computer teacher at Sunnydale High. Their relationship developed slowly, beginning with banter over the fact that Giles dealt with books and Jenny with computers ... and that Giles hates/fears computers. Giles didn't seem to know quite what to do about his intense attraction to free-spirited Jenny, and spent an inordinate amount of time watching her from afar, and stammering when trying to talk to her. Luckily Jenny wasn't nearly so shy and boldly made most of the moves, including bluntly telling Giles that she found him sexy, which seemed to shock him. They gradually fell quite deeply in love, and Jenny's laid-back attitude and sense of humor helped to loosen Giles up considerably. As Jenny turned out to be a "techno-pagan," she also became an integral part of the Scooby Gang until her death. Her death was particularly traumatic for Giles, as Angel killed her and left her in his bed. Note: It was Jenny's example which started fellow-computer-gal Willow on the path of exploring magic.

Joyce: Under the influence of candy which had been cursed by Ethan Rayne -- and which caused adults to behave like teenagers -- Giles had a brief fling with Buffy's mother, Joyce Summers. Once the effects of the candy wore off, they were both exceedingly embarrassed, and never quite got over their awkwardness around each other.

Olivia: A former girlfriend of Giles' from England, Olivia sometimes came out to visit and stay with him. Anya referred to her as Giles' "orgasm friend." However, after some rather unpleasant demony experiences during their sleep-overs, Olivia showed a lot less interest in booking an international flight for the pleasure of Giles' company.

Anya: When all of the Scoobies temporarily lost their memories, Anya thought she was engaged to Giles, not Xander. As a result, there was some inappropriately-passionate smooching. When they regained their memories, all Anya/Giles smooching and reference to Anya/Giles smooching ceased abruptly.
