Spike's Relationship History

Cecily: Cecily -- a snobbish London aristocrat in the late 1800s -- was the love of young William's human life, and the inspiration for his numerous and infamously terrible poems. When Cecily demanded to know if William cared for her, and he admitted that he did, she promptly told him he was beneath her and walked away. William's heart was smashed into a million pieces, but still beating. Not for long. He strode out into the dark, weeping and tearing up his poetry. That's where he met Drusilla.

Spike and DruDrusilla: Drusilla -- an insane and clairvoyant vampire -- seduced Spike, sired him into immortality, and then stayed his constant companion for more than 100 years. Spike cherished and protected Drusilla, though she was always more devoted to Angel than to him. Eventually, Drusilla began cheating on Spike because she felt he was obsessed with Buffy, and their relationship ended as a direct result.

Harmony: Spike took up with Harmony -- an intensely vapid vampire who happened to look a tiny bit like Buffy -- so that he wouldn't be alone, but he never particularly liked her, and even tried to stake her once. Spike does not suffer fools gladly, so he was pretty much never glad that Harmony was around ... except occasionally when they were in bed. Spike had a tendency to pretend that Harmony was Buffy, but Harm was too dumb to notice that she should have felt insulted.

The Nameless Goth Wedding Date: After Buffy broke off her sordid sexual liaison with Spike (see below), he brought some random goth girl as his date to Xander and Anya's wedding, purely to try to make Buffy jealous. He succeeded, then found that hurting Buffy wasn't even a tiny bit as satisfying as he'd hoped. Awwww. (Ep. 6.16)

Anya: After Xander dumped Anya at the altar and Buffy dumped Spike in his crypt (see below), Anya and Spike were both hurting pretty bad. They got to talking, got to drinking, and then ... well ... nature took its course. To use Anya's very apt term, they sought solace in each other's arms for an hour or so. But that's all it was ... because she still loved Xander and he still loved Buffy. They were just trying to forget and stop hurting for a little while. (Ep. 6.18)

Buffy: Buffy and Spike's relationship has pretty much always been complicated, since it started out with him trying to kill her in Season 2, then teaming up with her at the end of that same season, in order to defeat Evil Angel. It's unclear exactly when Spike fell in love with Buffy, but he consciously realized it near the beginning of Season 5, Spike and Buffyafter he'd been working rather reluctantly with the Scoobies for about a year. Spike tried to dismiss his feelings for Buffy, then even tried chaining Buffy up and offering to kill Drusilla to convince her to return his love ... all to no avail. In desperation, Spike had a robot (the Buffybot) built, primarily for sexual purposes, but the Scoobies found out and took her away. Eventually, he settled down into just trying to be close to Buffy and help her, and Season 5 ended with Buffy treating him almost like a friend and trusting him to protect Dawn. During Season 6, their relationship became even more complex, as Buffy turned to Spike as the only person she felt truly comfortable with upon returning from death. Buffy initiated a continuing, intense sexual relationship with him, while denying any emotional involvement because she "can't" love anyone who doesn't have a soul. Things deteriorated rapidly and their relationship became increasingly abusive on both sides, in different ways. By the end of the season, Spike had fled in horror at what he had become, and regained his soul in order to "give Buffy what she deserves." In Season 7, Buffy has seemed increasingly sympathetic to Spike — to the point of rescuing him from The First Evil — but it is unclear whether her feelings are romantic or purely platonic. They have not kissed since she broke up with him in mid-Season 6, and Buffy has continued to insist that she does not love him.
