Rest In Peace
written by Joss Whedon
performed by James Marsters
Context: Ep. 6.07, "Once More With Feeling": Spike sings this song to Buffy when she comes to visit him in his crypt to "pump him for information" about the singing demon. He feels used and unappreciated, that his feelings for her are being taken for granted and taken advantage of. The song starts in his crypt, but they then proceed to walk in the graveyard together, and end by falling into an open grave, with Buffy landing on top of Spike and then running away.
I died
So many years ago
But you can make me feel like it isnt so
And why you come to be with me
I think I finally know
Mmm-mmmmmm
Youre scared ...
Ashamed of what you feel
And you cant tell the ones you love
You know they couldnt deal
Whisper in a dead mans ear
It doesnt make it real
Thats great ...
But I dont want to play
'Cause being with you
Touches me more than I can say
And since Im only dead to you
Im saying stay away
And let me rest in peace ...
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six feet deep
I can lay my body down
But I cant find my sweet release
So let me rest in peace
You know
You got a willing slave
And you just love to play the thought
That you might misbehave
But 'til you do Im telling you
Stop visiting my grave
And let me rest in peace
I know
I should go
But I follow you like a man possessed
Theres a traitor here, beneath my breast
And it hurts me more than youve ever guessed
If my heart could beat, it would break my chest
But I can see youre unimpressed
So leave me be ...
And let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six feet deep
I can lay my body down
But I cant find my sweet release
So let me rest in peace ...
Why wont you
Let me rest in peace?
